Ichung’wah Calls for Tight Security Ahead of Gachagua Rally in Kikuyu

Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah has asked police to increase security in Kikuyu Town ahead of a planned political rally by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The rally is expected to take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
In a letter dated April 10, Ichung’wah wrote to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja requesting the National Police Service to ensure the safety of residents, businesses, and public property.
Ichung’wah said there has been growing tension in Kikuyu over the past two weeks due to political activities in the area. He accused Gachagua of using statements that could create division among residents.

According to the MP, the planned rally has raised fears of possible unrest, and he urged police to prepare early to avoid chaos.
He also stated that Kikuyu residents have remained united despite political differences and that the area welcomes leaders from all sides.
The Majority Leader pointed out previous incidents of violence in Kikuyu to support his request for tighter security.
He mentioned: The burning of Kikuyu NG-CDF offices in June 2024, the destruction of Kikuyu Law Courts and county offices in June 2025, Attacks on his private home and his parents’ residence
Ichung’wah said these incidents caused serious damage and are already recorded in police reports.
Reports of Mobilisation
The MP also claimed there are reports of people being mobilised from different counties, including Kiambu, Nairobi, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, and Nyandarua, to attend the rally.
He said some groups are allegedly organizing transport to bring people into Kikuyu Town, which could increase security risks if not properly managed.

Call for Strong Police Presence
Ichung’wah urged the police not to reduce security in the area. Instead, he asked for enough officers to be deployed to protect people and property during the event.
He also raised concerns that businesses linked to his family could be targeted and asked authorities to take preventive measures.
At the same time, he noted that Kikuyu has hosted other political leaders peacefully in the past. He gave an example of a recent rally addressed by former Chief Justice David Maraga, which ended without any problems.
Recent Political Tensions
This development comes just days after Ichung’wah criticized Gachagua over remarks made during a public event attended by President William Ruto.
The MP accused the former deputy president of turning a solemn occasion into a political platform.
