UDA Candidate David Keter Wins Emurua Dikirr Seat

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Kipsang Keter has won the Emurua Dikirr Constituency by-election held on Thursday.

The results announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) showed that Keter received 18,266 votes from the 94 polling stations in the constituency.

His main competitor, Vincent Kibet Rotich of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), came second after getting 10,760 votes.

Other candidates who participated in the race included Gideon Koech of the NVPK Party, who received 190 votes. Desma Cherono of PNU got 80 votes, while Kiprono Rotich of the RLP party received 62 votes.

According to the IEBC, a total of 29,358 valid votes were cast during the by-election. The commission also reported that 177 votes were rejected. The constituency has 44,457 registered voters.

The by-election was conducted after the death of former Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johanna Ngeno, who died in a plane crash earlier this year in February.

Keter’s victory gives UDA another win in the region at a time when the party is facing competition from new political parties, including DCP associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
