DCI Dismisses Claims Indian Doctor Was Paid Millions to Poison Raila With Botulinum Toxin

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media claiming that an Indian doctor was paid millions of shillings to poison former Prime Minister Raila Odinga while he was receiving treatment in India.

According to the fake posts, the doctor allegedly admitted to receiving Ksh300 million to administer botulinum toxin to Raila.

The posts further claimed that the substance blocks nerve signals to muscles, leading to paralysis.

However, the DCI said the claims were fabricated and urged Kenyans not to believe or share the misleading information.

Detectives warned that fake news targeting political leaders continues to spread on social media and can easily mislead the public.

The agency’s statement comes months after Raila’s death in October 2025. He reportedly collapsed while on a morning walk in Kerala, India, and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead despite efforts to save his life.

Reports indicated that cardiac arrest was the immediate cause of death, although he was also battling other health conditions, including diabetes and hypertension.

Before travelling to India, Raila had reportedly suffered a stroke and was undergoing treatment.

Despite his burial in October 2025, speculation surrounding the circumstances of his death has continued online, with authorities now moving to counter false and unverified claims.
