HELB Opens Loan Applications for Continuing Undergraduate Students

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has opened applications for continuing undergraduate students seeking financial support for the new academic year.

The application window is for students applying for HELB funding for the second, third, fourth, or any other subsequent year of their course, depending on their programme.

In a statement released on Tuesday, July 8, HELB asked eligible students to submit their applications through the HELB Mobile App or by dialling *642# on their registered mobile phone.

The government has allocated KSh56.3 billion for university loans and scholarships in the 2026/2027 financial year, with KSh30 billion set aside for university scholarships. The funding is expected to benefit more than 400,000 continuing students in both public and private universities.

How to Apply

Students using the USSD option should dial *642# on their registered phone, log in or create an account, set a four-digit PIN, select the Subsequent Application option, confirm their details and submit the application. A confirmation SMS with a serial number will be sent after successful submission.

Those using the HELB Mobile App should download the official app from the Google Play Store, log in using their registered phone number, select the loan application option, answer the required financial literacy questions, choose a payment method and submit the application.

HELB has encouraged all eligible continuing undergraduate students to apply before the application deadline to avoid missing out on funding.
