Pain as Missing JOOUST Student Alice Rianga is Found Dead in Bondo Forest

A dark cloud of sadness has covered Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology after the death of one of its students, Alice Rianga.

Alice, a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Education Science degree specialising in Mathematics and Chemistry, had been reported missing for several days before her body was discovered in a forest in Bondo, Siaya County.

According to reports, the young lady disappeared after she was last seen a few days ago. Her mobile phone later went off, raising fear among family members, friends, and fellow students.

Her relatives and friends began searching for her while appealing to the public for any information that could help trace her. Sadly, their hopes of finding her alive ended after her body was reportedly found dumped in a forest in the Barkowino area.

The incident has shocked students, residents, and Kenyans online, with many calling for justice and stronger protection for students.

Following the tragic news, students from JOOUST held peaceful demonstrations as they demanded speedy investigations into the matter.

In a statement released by the university through the Director of Student Support Services, Mary Onditi, the institution confirmed that police had already arrested a suspect linked to the incident.

The university said the Regional Police Commander informed them that the suspect was in police custody and was assisting officers with investigations.

Authorities also asked students and members of the public to remain calm as investigations continue. Police promised to thoroughly investigate the case and establish the full truth behind Alice’s death.

The tragic incident has once again raised concerns over the increasing number of deaths involving young people and students in the country.

Many Kenyans took to social media to mourn the young student and send condolences to her family and friends.

One social media user urged university students to protect one another, especially female students, while others called for people to avoid toxic relationships and prioritise their safety.

The painful death of Alice Rianga has left the JOOUST community in deep mourning as students continue to demand justice for their colleague.
