Easy Coach Founder Azym Dossa Dies, Kenya’s Transport Sector Pays Tribute

Kenya’s transport industry is in mourning following the death of prominent businessman and founder of Easy Coach, Azym Dossa.

The company confirmed that its former Managing Director passed away on Thursday, February 26, leaving behind a powerful legacy in the country’s long-distance travel sector.

A Visionary Who Built a Transport Giant

In an official statement, Easy Coach described Dossa as a visionary leader whose commitment and determination shaped the company from its early days into one of Kenya’s most respected transport brands.

“Mr Dossa’s vision, leadership and dedication shaped Easy Coach from its earliest days and left a lasting legacy that will always be part of who we are as a company,” the statement read.

Founded in 2003, Easy Coach began operations with just three buses. Its very first trip to Kisumu on December 18 carried only one paying passenger. From that humble beginning, the company has grown into a major player in Kenya’s public transport industry.

Today, Easy Coach serves more than 30 destinations across the country. According to industry reports, the company transports approximately 1.2 million passengers every year and handles about 1.3 million parcels and letters annually. It also employs over 1,000 staff members.

Dossa previously served as Chief Financial Officer at the former Akamba Bus Company, where he gained valuable experience before launching Easy Coach. His leadership style focused on professionalism, timeliness, and dignity in service delivery — principles that became the foundation of the company’s success.

Transport Leaders and Kenyans Mourn

The Federation of Public Transport Sector (FPTS) led industry players in mourning Dossa, describing him as a pioneer who transformed standards within Kenya’s transport sector.

“FPTS mourns the passing of Mr Azym Dossa, founder of Easy Coach and a true pioneer in Kenya’s transport industry. His leadership elevated professionalism and service standards in the industry,” the federation stated while sending condolences to his family and the Easy Coach fraternity.

Several Kenyans also took to social media to pay tribute, remembering Dossa as a mentor, father figure, and disciplined leader who valued punctuality and quality service.

Many travellers praised Easy Coach for maintaining reliability and accountability over the years, crediting Dossa’s vision for the brand’s strong reputation.

A Legacy That Will Live On

Dossa’s death marks a significant loss not only to Easy Coach but to the wider business community in Kenya. His journey from managing finances at a struggling transport firm to building one of the country’s most trusted bus companies stands as a testament to resilience and strategic leadership.

As Kenya mourns, many hope that Easy Coach will continue to uphold the values of professionalism, reliability, and dignity that its founder strongly believed in.
