Gachagua Issues Stern Warning to Matatu Operators

Former Deputy President and Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has issued a stern warning to Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators, accusing them of being used to disrupt his public gatherings.

Speaking on Kameme FM and Radio on Monday, January 12, Gachagua claimed that some leaders allied to President William Ruto’s administration have been hiring matatus to transport goons to his events and those of his allies.

Gachagua suggested that some PSV owners, particularly in Thika, may not even be aware that their vehicles are being misused in these attacks.

“You are lucky because recently, more than 20 PSV vehicles were hired to ferry goons to Gatundu to disrupt my supporters. It was only minutes away from turning violent; some of the vehicle owners didn’t even know,” Gachagua said.

He added a strong warning to the matatu owners: “If you allow goons to use your vehicles, and they fail to return, do not come complaining.”

This statement follows an incident on Sunday, January 11, where Gachagua alleged that goons tried to attack him during a church service in Gatundu. According to him, the locals immediately confronted the attackers, who he claims were under police protection.

Gachagua also accused the police of throwing teargas canisters into the church, which had women, children, and other congregants inside.

“I salute the people of Gatundu South for their bravery. They are true sons and daughters of Mau Mau. Their courage ensured that state-backed goons could not disrupt peace,” Gachagua said.

He further claimed that residents successfully repelled and disarmed hundreds of goons sent to harass his supporters, protecting civilians and maintaining order during the event.

At the same rally, Gachagua encouraged Kenyans to consider boycotting the implicated matatu saccos as a form of protest.
