List of Countries Trump Could Target Next After Capturing Venezuela’s President

US President Donald Trump announced that the United States invaded Venezuela and captured its president, Nicolás Maduro.

Speaking at a press conference and later on Fox & Friends, Trump said the operation was carried out to stop drug trafficking, control oil resources, restore democracy, protect US borders, and punish Venezuela for sending migrants to America.

However, his reasons have raised alarm globally because the same arguments could easily be used against many other countries. Trump even mentioned several nations directly, hinting that Venezuela may not be the last target.

Countries Trump Has Mentioned or Implied

1. Colombia

Trump openly warned Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro, accusing the country of producing cocaine that ends up in the US. He repeated a strong warning, saying Petro should “watch himself,” a statement many saw as a direct threat.

2. Cuba

Trump compared Cuba to Venezuela and said he wants to “help Cuban exiles.” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio added that Cuban leaders should be worried after seeing what happened to Maduro.

3. Mexico

Although Trump praised Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, he claimed that drug cartels control the country. He said the US would be forced to “do something” if the situation continues.

4. Canada

Trump accused Canada of allowing illegal drugs to pass into the US. In an earlier declaration, he even labelled Canada’s drug problem a threat to US national security.

5. El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras

Trump said Venezuela was punished for sending criminals and undocumented migrants to the US. But data shows that more migrants actually come from Central American countries like Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, putting them under similar suspicion.

6. Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Iran

Trump defended the Venezuela invasion by saying the US was reclaiming oil assets taken decades ago. Many other countries have also nationalised their oil industries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Iran — making them potential future targets under the same argument.

7. Brazil

Trump said America needs energy security and must control major oil sources. While Venezuela is rich in oil, Brazil is actually the biggest oil producer in Latin America, raising concerns it could also come under pressure.

8. Caribbean and Central American Nations

Trump previously listed countries such as Haiti, Jamaica, Panama, Peru, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, Belize, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua as major drug transit nations — a label that could justify future US action.

9. Greenland

Trump also linked the Venezuela operation to a broader US security plan. He recently repeated his desire to acquire Greenland, claiming it is critical for America’s national security.

Global Concern Growing

Analysts warn that Trump’s statements suggest a return to aggressive foreign policies reminiscent of 19th‑century power politics. Critics fear that using drugs, oil, migration, and democracy as excuses could put many nations at risk.
