Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has strongly spoken against the rising cases of violence and goon attacks in the country, saying he will restore law and order if elected president in 2027.
While speaking in Nyamira on Friday, Matiang’i said Kenya is facing serious challenges, including insecurity, poor public services, and fear among citizens.
He said it is worrying that children are missing school, hospitals are facing shortages, and ordinary wananchi are being attacked in different parts of the country.
Matiang’i, who previously served as Interior CS, said the government must act firmly against criminal gangs and individuals involved in violence, regardless of their political connections.
He promised Kenyans that if he gets the chance to lead the country, he will not allow goonism and lawlessness to continue.
“There will be no goon nonsense in this country,” Matiang’i said, adding that government must remain in control and criminals should face the law.
The Jubilee deputy party leader also criticised what he described as the selective application of the law, where some individuals are allegedly protected because of their links to powerful leaders.
According to him, friendship with top government officials should not be used as a shield for criminal acts.
His remarks come at a time when there is growing concern over politically sponsored violence, with reports of hired gangs disrupting meetings and attacking opponents in different regions.
Matiang’i said his leadership would focus on rebuilding trust in public institutions and ensuring every Kenyan is protected without favour.
He insisted that Kenya needs peace, strong institutions, and equal justice for all as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election.
