MP John Kaguchia Arrested by DCI Officers After Spending the Night at Citizen TV Studios

Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after spending the night at Royal Media Services studios in Nairobi.

The MP was arrested on the morning of Monday, August 3, shortly after leaving the media station, where he had remained overnight after claiming that police officers were waiting outside to arrest him.

Kaguchia had appeared on Inooro TV’s Kiririmbi programme on Sunday evening. After the interview, he alleged that several unmarked Subaru vehicles surrounded the media station and that officers had set up roadblocks nearby.

In a message shared on his social media pages, the legislator claimed he would not be intimidated.

He decided to stay inside the Royal Media Services compound throughout the night as officers reportedly remained outside the premises.

On Monday morning, Kaguchia confirmed that detectives were investigating him over remarks he allegedly made during a political rally in Kieni, Nyeri County.

The MP also accused some government officials, including digital strategist Dennis Itumbi, of spreading information that contributed to his arrest.

The investigations are linked to comments Kaguchia reportedly made during a rally on Saturday, August 2. The remarks sparked public debate after he allegedly warned that Mt Kenya residents would face consequences if they voted for President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

Following his arrest, Kaguchia is expected to be taken to the DCI regional headquarters on Valley Road in Nairobi for questioning.

His arrest comes as authorities continue investigating politicians accused of making inflammatory political statements. The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has also opened investigations into several other political leaders over alleged hate speech and incitement.
