The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) seized bundles of cash amounting to Ksh 250 million during a raid at the residence of Patrick Akivaga, a Nairobi County government official. The cash was reportedly stored in suitcases at his home.
The official, Patrick Analo Akivaga, who serves as Nairobi County Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning, was taken into custody following a search operation conducted by EACC investigators on Thursday.
According to the anti-graft agency, detectives found large amounts of cash stored in suitcases at Akivaga’s residence. Additional cash and other materials believed to be important to the investigation were also recovered from his vehicle.

EACC said investigators are examining financial transactions linked to the county official after detecting numerous cash and M-Pesa deposits made over several years. The agency suspects the transactions involve more than Sh170 million received between the 2019/20 and 2025/26 financial years.
The recovered cash and documents have been seized as evidence. At the same time, investigators work to establish the source of the money and determine whether it is connected to corruption or unexplained wealth.
The operation is part of EACC’s ongoing efforts to fight corruption in public offices. The commission has recently intensified investigations targeting public officials suspected of accumulating wealth that their known sources of income cannot explain.
The investigations are continuing as detectives analyze the evidence collected during the raid.
