Narok Assembly Descends Into Chaos as MCAs Fight Over Finance CECM Removal

Chaos broke out at the Narok County Assembly on Tuesday after Members of County Assembly (MCAs) engaged in physical fights during a heated debate over a motion seeking to remove Finance County Executive Committee Member (CECM) David Ole Muntet.

The drama started shortly after the assembly session began when disagreements emerged among MCAs over the planned impeachment motion against the finance official.

Reports indicate that some MCAs who had earlier supported the motion changed their position at the last minute, angering members who were pushing for Muntet’s removal from office.

Tension continued to rise when Speaker Davis Ole Dikir stood to announce leadership changes and read the motion before voting could begin.

The situation quickly turned chaotic as MCAs exchanged blows inside the assembly chamber, forcing security officers to escort the Speaker out for safety as the sitting was suspended abruptly.

Speaking after the incident, Speaker Ole Dikir said the confusion was caused by disagreements among members regarding leadership changes within the assembly.

“Today we received proposals from both sides concerning leadership changes. As I was communicating the changes, members became disorderly,” said Dikir.

He added that political parties should resolve their internal disagreements outside the assembly to avoid similar incidents in future.

According to reports, the wrangles involved members from both the majority and minority sides, with claims that some MCAs abandoned an earlier agreement to support the emergency motion against the finance executive.

Muntet is facing accusations of misusing public funds, delaying development projects and allegedly displaying arrogance while carrying out his duties.

MCAs supporting the ouster are now calling on the Office of the Auditor General to investigate the county’s spending and take legal action against anyone found responsible for misuse of funds.

Despite the chaos witnessed in the assembly, the MCAs behind the motion insisted they will continue pushing for Muntet’s removal until the matter is concluded.
