Omanga Kicked Out of Govt as Ruto and CSs Announce New Appointments

Former Nairobi Women Representative Millicent Omanga has been removed from her position as a board member of Kenya Shipyards Limited in the latest government changes.

The decision was announced in a gazette notice on Thursday by Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya. According to the notice, Omanga’s removal took effect on April 30, 2026.

Tuya said the decision was made under the law that governs state corporations, officially ending Omanga’s role in the government-linked company.

Her removal comes a few months after she publicly supported the Democracy for Citizens Party, a party linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

At the same time, President William Ruto made several reappointments in government.

Meanwhile, East African Community CS Beatrice Askul reappointed Dr Nkaesha Naikuni as a board member of the Ewaso Ng’iro South River Basin Development Authority for three more years. William Larus was also appointed as a new board member.

In the Judiciary, Chief Justice Martha Koome reappointed Carolyne Mboku as chairperson of the HIV and AIDS Tribunal together with other members, all set to serve for another three-year term.

Koome also named Anne Nderu as the new chairperson of the Public Benefit Organizations Disputes Tribunal, alongside four other members.
