Fresh political tensions have rocked the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after Acting Secretary General Catherine Omanyo publicly accused Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna of betraying party leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking during a charged rally in Siaya County, Omanyo alleged that Sifuna has been working with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachaguaa move she claimed contradicts ODM’s political direction.
She further accused certain leaders of advancing tribal politics, insisting that the party cannot associate itself with such alignments.
The remarks have intensified internal debate within ODM, with supporters now questioning the party’s unity ahead of the next General Election.
Omanyo also confirmed that she will defend her Secretary General seat at the upcoming party delegates’ conference, maintaining that she remains best suited for the role.
Meanwhile, ODM party leader Oburu Oginga sought to calm tensions, stating that the party is not planning to expel members who hold differing views.
He emphasized that ODM’s main focus remains structured negotiations, development agendas, and strengthening its political base.
As the 2027 political landscape begins to take shape, the unfolding ODM wrangles could significantly influence alliances, loyalty, and strategy within Kenya’s opposition politics.
