“Ulikula Pesa ya Uhuru Kenyatta” Edwin Sifuna Blames Junet Mohamed for Raila’s 2022 Presidency Seat Loss
Fresh cracks have emerged inside the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna accused Suna East MP Junet Mohamed of misusing campaign funds during Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential race.
Speaking during a heated address, the Nairobi Senator dismissed claims by some ODM leaders that former President Uhuru Kenyatta did not support Raila’s bid. Sifuna insisted that Uhuru played a key role in funding the Azimio la Umoja campaign.
According to Sifuna, large sums of money meant to support Raila’s campaign and pay grassroots agents never reached their intended destination.
He directly blamed Junet Mohamed, accusing him of diverting part of the funds for personal use instead of strengthening the campaign on the ground.
“Uhuru Kenyatta supported us fully. Most of the campaign money came from him,” Sifuna said.
“You took that money, failed to deliver it to the party and instead ate some of it.”
The phrase “Ulikula pesa ya Uhuru” quickly went viral online, highlighting the seriousness of the accusations and the growing internal tensions within ODM.
Sifuna also rejected claims that he is under pressure or could be forced out of the party because of his outspoken views. He maintained that Raila Odinga never endorsed President William Ruto, distancing himself from any cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza government.
The ODM Secretary General openly declared his opposition to President Ruto’s leadership, insisting that “Kasongo must go home in 2027.”
He further emphasized that no one within ODM has the power to control his political relationships or dictate who he associates with, signaling continued resistance against any internal intimidation.
The latest remarks are expected to deepen divisions within ODM as the party prepares for the 2027 General Election.
