Ruto: I Have No Worthy Opponent in the Presidential Race
3 min read
President William Ruto has strongly criticized his political rivals, accusing them of using threats and intimidation, and said such tactics will not remove him from power.
Speaking in Nyamira County during his “meet the people” tour, the President said Kenya belongs to all citizens and not a few leaders. He warned the opposition against spreading fear and misleading Kenyans.
Ruto said no individual or group has the power to decide who leads the country apart from the people. According to him, only Kenyans will determine the future of the nation through elections.
The Head of State also expressed confidence ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying none of his opponents has the strength, vision, or leadership record to challenge him.
“They cannot threaten this country or remove leaders from office. Kenya will move forward, and those trying to cause confusion will fail,” Ruto said.
He added that his rivals do not understand his leadership and should stop trying to intimidate him.
During the visit, President Ruto was accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and other regional leaders, including Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo.
Push for Political Support in Gusii Region
Earlier, the President held a meeting with leaders from the Gusii region at Kisii State Lodge. The meeting is said to be part of efforts to strengthen his support ahead of the next election.
He urged Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Kisii and Nyamira to support his second-term bid. More than 70 MCAs attended the meeting.
Leaders present included Kisii Governor Simba Arati and National Assembly Chief Whip Silvanus Osoro.
The President also appealed to leaders who have been supporting former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to join his side.
Development Projects Announced
During his tour, President Ruto launched and promised several development projects in Nyamira County:
- Construction of a modern stadium worth KSh 950 million
- Upgrade of Gusii Stadium at a cost of KSh 1 billion
- Establishment of an SGR station in Ikonge
- Building of Nyamira University College with KSh 500 million
- Construction of student hostels worth KSh 300 million
He also said the government is investing heavily in housing, education, and healthcare in the region.
According to the President:
- KSh 1.3 billion will be used to build hostels for 3,000 students
- KSh 15 billion is set aside for affordable housing, markets, and hostels
- KSh 1 billion will upgrade Nyamira County Referral Hospital
In addition, several road projects are ongoing, including:
- Eronge–Kebuse–Omonyenya Road (58% complete)
- Manga–Motemomwamu Road (38% complete)
Other roads are expected to begin soon after procurement is completed.
Focus on Development, Not Politics
President Ruto urged residents to ignore opposition leaders, saying they lack a clear development plan. He emphasized that his government is focused on improving lives through projects in education, infrastructure, and healthcare.
He also launched the construction of the Ikonge Modern Market, worth KSh 70 million, which will support over 200 traders once complete.
