The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning about heavy rainfall expected in different parts of the country, including Nairobi.
In a weather update released on Monday, April 13, 2026, the department said that rains will continue in several regions, with some areas expected to receive heavier rainfall than usual.
According to the report, regions located in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, will experience increased rainfall intensity in the coming days. Residents in these areas have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
However, the weather is expected to be different in the northwestern parts of the country, where sunny and dry conditions will dominate most of the time.
The weather department also noted that moderate rainfall is likely to continue in several regions across the country. These include Western Kenya, North-Eastern Kenya, South-Eastern Lowlands, the Coastal region of Kenya, Central Highlands Kenya, and the South Rift Valley Kenya.

Nairobi County Prepares for Heavy Rains
Following the warning, Johnson Sakaja has assured residents that the county government is prepared to deal with the situation.
In a recent statement, the governor said that the Nairobi City County Disaster Management team has mobilized resources and personnel to handle any emergencies that may arise due to the heavy rains.
He added that the county’s “Green Army” and technical teams have been deployed across all sub-counties to clear blocked drainage systems and waterways. This is aimed at reducing flooding and ensuring smooth movement within the city.
The county government is also working closely with Kenya National Highways Authority and Kenya Urban Roads Authority to keep major roads accessible.
Contractors have been instructed to act quickly by clearing blocked drains, removing fallen trees, and getting rid of debris to protect both drivers and pedestrians.
Residents are advised to stay updated with weather reports and avoid flood-prone areas during this period of heavy rainfall.
