Aisha Jumwa Joins Linda Mwananchi Movement Days After Leaving UDA

Former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has officially joined the Linda Mwananchi movement, just one day after announcing that she had left the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Jumwa was welcomed into the movement on Friday during a political tour of the Coast region. She appeared alongside Siaya Governor James Orengo, one of the leaders of the opposition movement.

Governor Orengo welcomed her to the team, saying her decision to join was a big boost for the movement as it continues to attract more leaders from different parts of the country.

Jumwa’s move follows her resignation from UDA, where she accused the ruling party of failing to support her political ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

While speaking at her home in Kakuyuni, Malindi, she claimed that her attempts to seek President William Ruto’s support for her Kilifi governor bid were unsuccessful. According to Jumwa, she made several efforts to reach the President, but her concerns were never addressed.

She also alleged that she was once turned away from State House during a meeting involving President Ruto and Coast leaders. Jumwa said such incidents made her feel ignored despite being one of the founding members of UDA.

The former Cabinet Secretary said she had remained loyal to the party for years but was left without any government role while still being expected to campaign for President Ruto’s re-election.

After leaving UDA, Jumwa had promised to announce her next political step, but she did not reveal where she was headed until now.

Her decision to join Linda Mwananchi comes at a time when the movement is attracting leaders who oppose the political cooperation between President William Ruto and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The movement has recently been linked to political changes in Parliament. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi were removed from key Senate committees, with many observers linking the move to their involvement in Linda Mwananchi.

Nominated Senator Crystal Asige was also removed from the Senate Committee on Roads, Transport and Housing. She said the decision had affected her work in championing the rights of persons with disabilities.

Political analysts expect more leaders to shift alliances as preparations for the 2027 General Election continue.
