DCP Sets Ksh 250,000 Fee for Ol Kalou MP Ticket Ahead of By-Election

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has announced that anyone interested in contesting for the party’s ticket in the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election will pay Ksh 250,000.

In a statement released on Sunday, the party invited interested candidates to submit their applications for the ticket. DCP said the fee is non-refundable.

The party also stated that candidates under the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) category will pay a reduced fee of Ksh 125,000.

This announcement comes after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) confirmed that the Ol Kalou by-election will be held on July 16, 2026.

The parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of former MP David Njuguna Kiaraho, who passed away on March 29, 2026, while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.

According to the IEBC notice, political parties planning to take part in the mini-polls must submit the names and signatures of their candidates by May 4, 2026.

Parties using indirect nominations have until May 15, 2026, to submit their candidates.

The commission further said that any public officer wishing to contest in the by-election must resign from office within seven days after the seat was officially declared vacant.

Campaign activities for the race will begin on May 25 and end on July 13, 2026.

The by-election is expected to attract major political interest, especially from parties linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the ruling camp.
