Kalonzo Declares ‘Mother of All Protests’ on June 25 Over Finance Bill Deaths

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced plans for a major protest on June 25, 2026, to honour young Kenyans who lost their lives during last year’s anti-Finance Bill protests.
Speaking to residents at Katutu Market in Kitui West on Tuesday, Kalonzo said the demonstration will be one of the biggest protests this year. He said the day will be used to remember the youths who were allegedly shot during the protests against the Finance Bill.
Kalonzo also criticised the current government over the rising cost of living, saying many Kenyan families are struggling more than before.
He pointed out that fuel prices in Kenya remain high compared to neighbouring countries, blaming poor leadership and bad economic management.

According to him, the government has failed to properly manage the economy and key public services, which has left ordinary Kenyans suffering.
The Wiper leader further accused the administration of mismanaging the education sector and allowing continued misuse of public funds.
During his address, Kalonzo said he had asked Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr to help secure the release of 11 people who were arrested during protests linked to the high fuel prices.
He said the opposition will continue to stand with Kenyans who are speaking out against the high cost of living.
Kalonzo also stated that if the opposition forms the next government, they will push for June 25 to be officially recognised as a national day of remembrance for the youths who died during the anti-Finance Bill demonstrations.

At the same time, former Attorney General Justin Muturi called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to hold talks with political parties, civil society groups and the media on electoral issues.
Muturi said the ongoing enhanced voter registration exercise is expected to end next week. He warned that if the IEBC does not organise stakeholder talks within two weeks, different groups may stage a sit-in at the commission’s headquarters.
DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa also raised concerns over claims that some people are being registered as voters outside Kenya.
He called for investigations into allegations that non-Kenyans are being issued with Kenyan voter documents.
