Kihika Asks Nakuru Voters to Give Her Another Term, Says “Have Mercy on Me”
2 min read
Governor Susan Kihika has called on residents of Nakuru to support her re-election bid in 2027, saying the county risks slowing development if leaders keep changing after every election.
Speaking during a public event in Nakuru Town West, Kihika said she wants voters to break the long-standing pattern where governors serve only one term and are voted out before completing their development plans.
“Give me another chance,” Kihika tells voters
Kihika urged residents to consider continuity in leadership, arguing that development projects take time to plan and complete.
She said frequent leadership changes often disrupt government programmes and force new leaders to spend too much time adjusting instead of delivering services.
The governor jokingly asked residents to “have mercy” on her and give her another term so she can continue with ongoing projects.
Development concerns and political pressure
Kihika noted that no leader can deliver “perfect results” in a short time, adding that progress requires consistency and patience from voters.
However, she is facing growing political pressure ahead of 2027, with shifting alliances and rising competition from leaders linked to the Democracy for the Citizens Party.
She has also faced criticism from some leaders in the region, making her re-election bid more competitive.
Nakuru’s history of one-term governors
The governor also pointed out that no county boss in Nakuru has managed to serve two full terms since the start of devolution.
She warned that this cycle has slowed down long-term development plans, as each new administration brings different priorities.
Political tension and community dynamics
Reports show that Kihika is also dealing with political divisions within key voting blocs in the county, adding more uncertainty to the 2027 race.
Despite this, she insists she is confident of winning re-election based on her development record and ongoing projects.
Responding to political claims
Separately, Kihika also defended her family after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made claims linking her husband to alleged political interference.
She dismissed the accusations, saying her family has been unfairly targeted in political disputes.
What next?
As 2027 approaches, the Nakuru gubernatorial race is expected to be highly competitive, with leaders already positioning themselves for the top seat.
Kihika now hopes that voters will focus on continuity and development as they make their decision at the ballot.
