Nairobi Woman Left With KSh 10,000 Hotel Bill After Date Disappears in Westlands

A Nairobi woman has narrated how a date with a man she met on social media ended in disappointment after he allegedly disappeared, leaving her with a hotel bill of KSh 10,000.
Juliette Awata said the man invited her for drinks and lunch at a rooftop restaurant located at Sarit Centre in Westlands. Since the two had been interacting online for some time, she accepted the invitation hoping to enjoy a normal outing.
According to Juliette, the man appeared friendly and welcoming when they met. They spent time talking while enjoying food and drinks at the restaurant.
However, the situation changed when the man received a phone call and stepped away from their table. He later returned briefly before leaving again, saying he needed to handle another call.
Juliette continued waiting, believing he would return shortly. After a long period without seeing him, she became concerned and decided to ask a waitress whether the bill had already been settled.
To her surprise, she was informed that the man had left the restaurant without paying. The hotel also revealed that he had not cleared his own expenses, leaving the entire bill under his reservation.
Juliette said she had only consumed food and drinks worth about KSh 1,550, but she was forced to settle the full KSh 10,000 bill.
The incident became even more embarrassing when restaurant staff reportedly held her for some time as they tried to find out where the man had gone.
After several unsuccessful attempts to contact him, Juliette decided to share her experience online. She said she aimed to warn others to be careful when meeting people they have only interacted with through social media.
She further claimed that shortly after the incident, the man deleted his social media account, making it difficult for her to reach him.
Juliette is now hoping that the man will take responsibility and refund the money she paid. She described the incident as a painful lesson and one she never expected from what seemed like an ordinary date invitation.
The story has sparked reactions online, with many Kenyans urging people to exercise caution when meeting online acquaintances for the first time.
