ODM Official Addresses Lack of Edwin Sifuna’s Signature ‘Locking’ Party Funds

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has dismissed claims that the party’s operations have been affected by the absence of Edwin Sifuna.

Her remarks come amid growing concerns that Sifuna, who was recently removed as ODM Secretary General, could be blocking key party activities due to his role as a signatory.

Wanga: ODM Activities Cannot Be Stopped by One Person

Speaking on the matter, Wanga clarified that ODM does not rely on a single individual to run its operations or access funds.

She explained that although Sifuna is one of the signatories to party accounts, he is not the most important one. According to her, the only mandatory signatory is the party’s National Treasurer, Timothy Bosire.

Wanga revealed that ODM has several authorized signatories, and any three of them can approve payments and allow party activities to continue.

“Sifuna is a signatory, but not a mandatory one. The treasurer must sign every cheque, but after that, other officials can also sign and the party moves on,” Wanga said.

Special Delegates Conference Not Affected

There had been claims that the planned Special Delegates Conference (SDC), called by party leader Oburu Oginga, could not proceed without Sifuna’s approval.

However, Wanga dismissed these claims, stating that the party has enough systems in place to ensure its activities continue smoothly.

She added that ODM has been holding meetings and events for over 20 years, and internal disagreements have never stopped its operations.

ODM Has Enough Funds to Run Its Activities

Wanga also addressed claims that the party might be struggling financially or relying on outside support.

She insisted that ODM receives funding from the government through the Political Parties Fund and has enough money to carry out its activities.

“ODM has resources. We have been running party activities for years, and no individual can block that,” she said.

She further emphasized that party funds are public resources and cannot be controlled by one person.

Junet Mohamed Raises Concern Over KSh 12 Billion

Meanwhile, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has called on President William Ruto to release funds owed to ODM.

According to Junet, the government has not disbursed over KSh 12 billion meant for the party under the Political Parties Fund.

He raised the issue during a joint parliamentary meeting involving ODM and UDA members, saying the delay is affecting party growth and operations.

ODM leaders have warned that continued delays could force the party to take legal action to recover the money.
