Police Recover Range Rover as Probe Into Dr Victoria Mutiso’s Murder Deepens

Investigations into the murder of psychologist and mental health researcher Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso have taken a new turn after detectives recovered a Range Rover while searching for a vehicle believed to have been used in the fatal attack.

The vehicle was seized during a police operation at a home in Karen linked to one of the suspects. According to investigators, the Range Rover belonged to Dr Mutiso’s husband, Prof. David Ndetei, and had gone missing after their Mlolongo property was demolished earlier this year.

Police believe another missing vehicle, a Toyota Prado, could be the same car used to block the taxi carrying Dr Mutiso moments before she was shot in Nairobi’s Upper Hill.

Missing Prado Could Be Key Evidence

Detectives say the Toyota Prado disappeared after a court-ordered eviction at Dr Mutiso’s Mlolongo property in February 2026.

The demolition left several buildings destroyed and vehicles missing. Investigators now suspect one of those missing vehicles was later used during the deadly attack.

According to police, the Prado stopped the taxi carrying Dr Mutiso before armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire, shooting her three times.

Detectives Investigating Eviction Orders

Police are also looking into the eviction that took place at the Mlolongo property.

Investigators want to establish whether the court order used during the eviction was genuine or obtained fraudulently.

One of the suspects, Rose Mbithe Mulwa, is said to have presented the eviction documents to officers at Mlolongo Police Station before the demolition.

After the incident, Dr Mutiso reported the destruction of her property, theft of vehicles and trespassing to police. However, no arrests were made at the time.

Detectives now believe the earlier complaint could provide important clues in the murder investigation.

Dr Mutiso Reported Threats Before Her Death

Police say Dr Mutiso had already reported receiving threats before she was killed.

On July 7, 2026, she told officers at Kilimani Police Station that unknown men on a motorcycle had been following and threatening her while she was driving.

Following the incident, she reportedly stopped using her personal vehicles and began travelling by taxi for safety.

About three weeks later, she was shot dead while on her way to work in Nairobi’s Upper Hill.

Documents Found During Search

During the search at the Karen residence, detectives recovered documents containing details of the taxi used on the day of the shooting, including its registration number.

Investigators are trying to establish whether the house was used to help plan the attack.

Property Dispute Under Investigation

Police believe the murder may be connected to a long-running dispute over the Mlolongo property.

The land has been the subject of a legal battle dating back to 2002 involving Prof. David Ndetei and his former wife, Rose Mbithe Mulwa.

Mulwa and her son, Chris Mulwa, remain in custody as investigations continue. A court is expected to decide whether they will remain in detention for more time as detectives complete their inquiries.

Postmortem Findings

A postmortem conducted at Kenyatta National Hospital confirmed that Dr Mutiso died from severe bleeding after suffering three gunshot wounds.

Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor said two of the bullets struck her head, causing fatal injuries.

Investigations Continue

Police say they have already identified the suspected gunman and the motorcycle rider believed to have carried out the attack and are searching for them.

Investigators have also collected CCTV footage, recovered spent cartridges from the scene, impounded the Uber vehicle involved and are analysing phone records to establish the movements and communication of the suspects.

Authorities say investigations are still ongoing as they work to establish the full motive behind the killing.
