Why Raila Odinga Never Removed Edwin Sifuna from ODM Party

The relationship between the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has often sparked debate within Kenya’s political circles. Despite internal disagreements and growing tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Raila never removed Sifuna from his position as the party’s Secretary-General. This decision was not accidental — it was shaped by political strategy, party unity, democracy, and leadership style.

1. Raila Believed in Dialogue, Not Punishment

One of the key reasons Raila did not kick Sifuna out of ODM was his leadership philosophy. Raila was known for preferring dialogue over confrontation when dealing with internal party disputes.
