Police Officer Collapses, Dies During Madaraka Day Celebrations in Wajir

Residents and security officers in Wajir County were left in shock after a police officer collapsed and died during Madaraka Day celebrations on Monday, June 1.
The officer, identified as Constable Hassan Juma Moyo, was taking part in the Madaraka Day parade at Wajir Stadium when the incident happened.
Officer Collapses During Parade
Witnesses said the officer appeared fine while carrying out his duties before suddenly falling to the ground in front of fellow officers, government officials and members of the public.
The unexpected incident caused panic among those attending the celebrations as emergency responders quickly rushed to assist him.
Rushed to Hospital
Constable Moyo was immediately taken to Wajir County Referral Hospital for treatment.
Medical personnel tried to save his life, but he was sadly pronounced dead at around 10 am.
Authorities have not yet revealed the cause of his death. Investigations are expected to determine what led to the tragic incident.
Celebrations Turn Into Mourning
The officer’s death cast a shadow over the Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir, which had brought together residents and leaders to mark the important national holiday.
Many people at the stadium were saddened by the news, with fellow officers describing Constable Moyo as a committed officer who reported for duty ready to serve his country.
Following the incident, messages of condolence poured in from Kenyans who expressed sympathy to the officer’s family, friends and colleagues.
