The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has extended the deadline for a nationwide data update exercise targeting registered teachers who are currently not employed by the Commission.
In a notice released on March 31, TSC said affected teachers now have until midnight on April 7, 2026, to update and submit their details through the official online portal.
“The Commission hereby extends the deadline for submission of the required data to midnight of 7th April, 2026,” the statement read.
According to the Teachers Service Commission, the exercise is meant to improve the accuracy of its records. This will help in planning for teacher recruitment and understanding the shortage and distribution of teachers across the country.
Purpose of the Data Update
TSC explained that the ongoing update is important for workforce planning in the education sector. The information will help the Commission identify the number of qualified teachers available in different subjects and regions.
Teachers taking part are required to update details such as:
- Academic qualifications
- Subject combinations or specializations
- Training levels
- Personal and professional information
The Commission also assured teachers that all information submitted will be handled securely and in line with the Data Protection Act.
Earlier, TSC had set March 16, 2026, as the deadline, but many teachers requested more time, leading to the extension.

How Teachers Can Update Their Details
Teachers are required to complete the process online using the TSC portal. The steps include:
- Visit the official TSC online services portal
- Log in using your registration number and credentials
- Open the profile or records update section
- Fill in all required personal and professional details
- Upload supporting documents where needed
- Review and submit before the deadline
TSC clarified that this exercise is strictly for data collection and not a recruitment process.
TSC Plans New Teacher Recruitment
This update comes at a time when the government is preparing to employ more teachers across the country.
Earlier this year, TSC announced plans to recruit 16,000 teachers for Junior Secondary and Senior Schools in the upcoming financial year. The move is aimed at reducing the national teacher shortage, which is estimated at 116,000 teachers.
The Commission also presented a budget proposal of KSh 422.9 billion, which includes:
- KSh 2 billion for teacher promotions
- KSh 1.5 billion for training teachers in new learning areas
- KSh 7.2 billion for converting 20,000 intern teachers into permanent and pensionable terms
According to the Budget Policy Statement, the total allocation for the 2026/2027 financial year is expected to support both recruitment and improvement of the education workforce.
