Samuel Muchina Wins UDA Nomination for Ol Kalou Parliamentary By-Election

Samuel Muchina Nyaga has officially been selected as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election scheduled for July 16, 2026.
Muchina won the UDA party primaries held on Friday after beating nine other candidates in a closely contested race.
According to results released by the ruling party, Muchina received 3,221 votes while his closest competitor, George Wambugu Kanuri, got 3,077 votes.
The nomination certificate was handed to Muchina by UDA National Elections Board member Jimmy Kahindi at Mumbi Primary School after the exercise ended successfully.
Peter Njoroge Mugo finished third with 1,049 votes, while Mary Nyokabi Kamau received 406 votes.
Other candidates in the race included Peter Chuchu Njuguna who got 158 votes, Maina Kiambati with 96 votes, Joseph Ndirangu who received 90 votes, Ezekiah Kamweru with 66 votes, Daniel Ndungu with 52 votes and Stanley Mwangi who got 43 votes.
The Ol Kalou by-election is expected to attract major political attention as different parties prepare to battle for influence in the Mt Kenya region.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) is also expected to field a candidate in the race.
The DCP party is set to hold its nominations on Saturday, May 9, after informing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) about the planned exercise.
