Luhya Elders Back Edwin Sifuna's Presidential Bid Ahead of 2027 Election

The Luhya Elders Forum has declared its support for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as its preferred presidential candidate ahead of the next General Election.

Speaking during a meeting in Kakamega on Sunday, the elders said Sifuna has shown strong leadership and has gained support from many Kenyans across the country.

The meeting was also held to appoint a new chairman of the forum following the death of former chairman Patrick Wangamati in July.

The elders, led by deputy chairman Noah Wekesa, urged Sifuna to work closely with other opposition leaders and agree on one presidential candidate to face President William Ruto in the upcoming election.

Wekesa said Sifuna has attracted large crowds during his visits to different parts of Kenya, showing that his popularity extends beyond the Western region.

“Edwin Sifuna has received support from many Kenyans, and as our son, we fully support his efforts to provide leadership for the country,” Wekesa said.

He added that the opposition should avoid divisions and instead unite behind one candidate with the best chance of winning the presidency.

The elders also said they would have officially blessed Sifuna during the meeting if he had attended the event.

According to the forum, Sifuna has continued to gain national support, and they believe other opposition leaders could eventually rally behind him.

During the same meeting, veteran politician and former ambassador Burudi Nabwera was appointed the new chairman of the Luhya Elders Forum, replacing the late Patrick Wangamati.
