Gachagua Sets Date to Grade Ruto’s Four-Year Performance

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced that he will release a report reviewing President William Ruto’s performance since taking office in 2022.

Speaking on Friday, July 31, at his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri County during a meeting with Maasai leaders and supporters, Gachagua said the report will be made public on August 10, 2026.

According to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, the report will assess what the Kenya Kwanza government has achieved over the past four years.

“On August 10, I will present an audit of William Ruto’s four-year leadership and let Kenyans judge what has been achieved,” Gachagua told his supporters.

Report Comes Before Ruto’s National Event

The announcement comes just days before President Ruto is expected to hold a national event on August 12, where he plans to launch Kenya’s new development agenda aimed at transforming the country into a first-world economy.

Although Gachagua did not reveal the full contents of his report, he said it would give Kenyans a clear picture of the government’s performance.

Gachagua Continues Criticising Government

Since leaving office in 2024, Gachagua has remained one of President Ruto’s strongest critics.

He has repeatedly accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of failing to fulfil some of the promises made during the 2022 General Election campaign. Among the issues he has raised are the high cost of living, taxation, agriculture, governance and the economy.

The former deputy president has also been meeting leaders and supporters from different parts of the country at his Wamunyoro residence as he strengthens his political influence.

Focus on 2027 General Election

Political analysts expect Gachagua’s report to become part of the opposition’s campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In recent months, he has been working with several opposition leaders while calling for a united team to challenge President Ruto in the next presidential election.

Gachagua has maintained that a united opposition will have a better chance of winning the 2027 polls.

Political Fallout

President Ruto and Gachagua were elected together in 2022 under the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

However, their political relationship later broke down, leading to Gachagua’s impeachment as Deputy President in 2024. He was replaced by Prof. Kithure Kindiki, while he shifted his focus to opposition politics and preparations for the 2027 elections.
